A lifelong reader,
I grew up in California and New Hampshire, graduating from Wellesley College with a degree in French literature. After teaching English in Paris, and French in the U.S., I worked for many years at a regional book wholesaler. That experience with the business side of books—ordering and returns, inventory and shipping, helping with sales, catalogs and trade shows—was a fantastic introduction to the world of book-making and selling.
In 2001, I joined SCBWI, The Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, where I was an active volunteer in our regional chapter. That led to meeting my critique group partners, whose encouragement and feedback have made me a better writer.

We cruised around Mexico and Southern California until our newest crew member, aka “Cabin Boy,” was born in 2009. Before he left the hospital, we had strung netting around the boat to make it a floating playground. Even so, we made sure he wore his life jacket on deck.
That creative chapter closed with a move to New York, and then a return to southern California three years later, but the writing adventure continues...
